ISSAMBA Centre is a Black-led, Black-serving cultural organization with decades of experience advancing African and Afro-descendant arts, culture, and community engagement in Canada. Our activities contribute to a strong, inclusive arts ecosystem by supporting artists, engaging diverse publics, and increasing access to cultural experiences.

Our measurable impact includes:

2,500+ participants reached annually through artistic programming, cultural events, youth and community initiatives, and educational activities

25–35 cultural activities delivered each year, including festivals, performances, workshops, exhibitions, and community-based presentations, in partnership with artists, cultural workers, schools, municipalities, and community organizations

13+ years of sustained public programming promoting African arts, heritage, and contemporary cultural expression in Victoria, British Columbia, and across Canada

Our programs prioritize equity-seeking communities, including Black, African, Afro-descendant, racialized, newcomer, youth, and intergenerational audiences.

We actively support artistic creation, professional development, audience development, and public access to the arts, while fostering cross-cultural dialogue and community connection.

ISSAMBA Centre’s work contributes to community vitality, cultural diversity, and social cohesion, aligning with federal priorities related to equity, inclusion, access, and the development of Canadian artistic practices and markets.
