Celebrating African & Afro-Descendant Cultures
SANKOFA PROGRAMS
Honouring Our Elders • Connecting Generations • Strengthening Community
A community-based initiative supporting Black, African, and Afro-descendant seniors through cultural connection, food security, wellness, and intergenerational exchange.
What is Sankofa?
Sankofa is a culturally grounded community program that supports seniors—particularly Black, African, and Afro-descendant elders—through food access, social connection, cultural activities, and intergenerational engagement. Rooted in African values, Sankofa reminds us to look back to honour knowledge, wisdom, and lived experience as we move forward together.
Delivered by AACCCS–ISSAMBA Centre, the program creates safe, welcoming spaces where seniors can gather, share stories, enjoy nutritious meals, and remain active contributors to community life.
